How to Install Quick Mat Electric Floor Heating

Back to How It Works | Online Electric Load Verifier

QuickMat Installation Overview

QuickMat's aluminum strips arrange the heating cable and hold it to the subfloor with a self-adhesive backing, so most installers can lay out and wire a room in a single day before tile goes down on top.

Step 1: Measure and Plan the Layout

Measure the room and mark off any fixtures, cabinets, or areas that won't need heat, such as under a vanity or tub. This determines how much of the mat you'll need and where the cable should be routed.

Step 2: Roll Out and Secure the Mat

Peel back the self-adhesive backing as you roll the mat into place, cutting the aluminum strips (not the cable itself) to turn corners or route around obstacles. The strips hold the cable at the correct spacing automatically.

Step 3: Test the Circuit

Before covering the mat, use an ohmmeter to confirm the cable's resistance matches the manufacturer specification. This step catches any damage to the cable before it's sealed under tile or flooring.

Step 4: Install Flooring and Connect the Thermostat

Because QuickMat leaves 75% of the surface exposed, thin-set adhesive bonds directly to the subfloor as your tile is set on top. Once the floor is in, a licensed electrician makes the final connection to your floor-sensing thermostat.
